Hate the Player It’s Not a Game

Twitter Spam“Don’t hate the player, hate the game” refers to jealousy over success that’s attained by operating within the rules. People operating outside the rules… Well, hate away. Earlier in the week I was talking with a few friends about Twitter Spam / Blackhatting twitter. (The old “Force follow” trick, grinding / churning accounts, probing for accounts set to auto-follow) I’m all for people using Twitter and other services for whatever purpose they want, so long as they’re honest about it. Sure, build an “Elite Power Account”, but don’t call yourself expert, maven, guru, or coach. Spamming Twitter does not make you a Premier Thought Leader. It makes you an Idiot. A paper millionaire with a fistful of Enron stock. The numbers are impressive, but have no value outside of impressing people who don’t know any better. Sure, being legitimate is slow going, but there’s really not an alternative. When it comes down to it, wouldn’t you prefer an address book full of people that matter rather than a stack of phonebooks full of people who couldn’t care less?

PodCamp Boulder 2009

PodCamp

PodCamp Boulder will be held January 23-24 at the skinnycorp / Threadless office (1468 Pearl St, Boulder)

Starting at 7:00 Friday night we’ll get together over drinks and in front of a whiteboard to hash out the Saturday schedule. Knowledge to drop? Things you’ve been curious about? So long as it’s in the realm of new media (Audio, Video, Photos, Blogs/Microblogs) , it’s fair game. We’ll wrap at 9:00 having decided both what sessions / panels / discussions will be happening, and when we want to be back in the morning. (9:00-5:00 or 10:00-5:00 Saturday) All are welcome. Invite a friend. Bring your gear, bring a good attitude.

Snack / Drink sponsors still welcome, contact jeremy at jeremytanner.com or call at 248-990-3862

Seven things you don’t need to know

Certified Boater!
Watch out! Meme train coming through!!  I didn’t duck fast enough when Chuck Reynolds sent it my way, and before I could post I was re-tagged by Naim Falandino so prepare to enjoy: Seven things you likely don’t know about me.

  • I’m 27 years old and do not have a Passport.  I intend to get one and use it this year.
  • Though I don’t currently own a car, the ones I have owned were all German (Audi 5000 Wagon, Audi 4000 Quattro, Volkwagen GTI VR6)
  • I get uneasy in large grocery stores.  I’m not agoraphobic, there’s just something unsettling about them.
  • I haven’t in about 15 years, but I can both knit and crochet.
  • I’ve taken a polar bear dive.  After you’ve jumped through a hole chainsawed into the ice, you’ll never be truly cold ever again.
  • I’m certified to operate both sail and power boats.
  • I dream of being married in a full Klingon ceremony… Wait… That’s only in my nightmares.

Breaking a meme-chain isn’t dangerous like walking under a ladder or dropping a mirror right? Because this one looks like it’s going to end with me. The tubes are pretty saturated with 6th photo and 7 things posts… I guess we’ll have to wait for the 8 something meme.
